Heart of Delight

This little section is dedicated to my rambunctious & energetic little boy Gabriel whom has a half a heart!  You can read about his journey by clicking on the link under the picture to the right.  Below you will find many facts & resources for those interested in knowing more about CHD in children.... & particularly about HLHS, which my son has.  If you are a mom looking for some advice, comfort, info, etc., please contact me as I would LOVE to help you along this road of being a heart mom to the most AMAZING little miracles!!!

FACTS

• Most common birth defect in the USA.

• 1 in 100 kids are born a heart defect every year.

• In the last decade, deaths have decreased by nearly 30% due to advancements in research; however, the funding for CHD is still very VERY low compared to other diseases & cancers.

• 2x the amount of deaths are from CHD a year than all forms of childhood cancers combined.

• There are about 40 different kinds of heart defects.  There are no cures for any of them yet.

HLHS

Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome:  Basically meaning the child is born without the left ventricle.  Rather than having me try to explain everything, I will have some links below with great info about HLHS.
